HHS' Carl falls in first round at 5A state

Hays High School senior A.J. Carl finished up his high school career this weekend at the Class 5A state tournament in Wichita.
Carl, the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, lost to Winfield's Adam Lawrence 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 in the first round Friday. In Class 4A, Colby's Jeremy Harter lost to Smoky Valley's Chase Dippel, 6-0, 6-0.
In Class 3-2-1A, Trego's Jake Schlegel lost to Independent's Ryan Norman, 6-0, 6-1. His teammate, Brandon Katt, also lost in the first round to Wichita Indepenent's Corban Aspegren, 6-2, 6-2.
