BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. -- The Hays Senior Legion baseball team lost its first game of the Blue Springs, Mo., Wood Bat Tournament 5-3 to the Central Missouri Spartans.
It was the Eagles' second loss in a row after falling to the Salina Falcons on Tuesday. It's the first time this season the Eagles (35-6) have lost two consecutive games.
Against the Spartans, the Eagles couldn't get their bats going, producing just three hits in seven innings.
Trevor Henningsen (6-1) threw a solid game, allowing five runs (two earned), five hits and three walks, but couldn't get the run support.
The Eagles were behind 1-0 until the fourth inning when they tied it, but the Spartans scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead.
In the sixth, the Eagles began to rally, as third baseman Zack Legleiter drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in a run and Henningsen hit a sacrifice fly to score a run. However, the Spartans then notched a run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-3 lead.
Outfielder Casey Sedbrook finished 1 of 4 with a double, second baseman Riley Kaus was 1 of 3 with a run scored and catcher Jarrett Sanders was 1 of 1 with an RBI.
The tournament continues all weekend.
