Ellis softball qualifies for state

SYLVAN GROVE -- The Ellis High School softball team punched its ticket Tuesday to the Class 2-1A state tournament in Emporia next week.
After receiving a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed, Ellis (11-9) defeated Lincoln 12-1 and survived extra innings against Natoma, winning 6-5 in eight innings.
Lincoln dropped to 2-16, and Natoma dropped to 10-10.
The Class 2-1A state softball tournament will begin May 25 at the Emporia-Trusler Sports Complex, 701 E. 18th.
