KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The No. 17 Fort Hays State University men's soccer team was upset Friday on the road by Truman State University on a late penalty kick.
The Tigers dropped to 8-4-1 and 4-2 in the MIAA following what could be a costly conference and in-region loss.
Truman (7-4-1, 4-1-1 MIAA) scored the match-winning goal in the 85th minute on a penalty kick by Tony Luedecke.
The game was tied for much of the match, as the two teams traded goals in the first five minutes.
Truman scored in the second minute off a corner kick, and FHSU tied it in the fifth minute as sophomore midfielder Diego Cabral stole the ball from a defender in the box and scored.
Cabral's now tied with senior forward Tomas Mares for the team lead in goals scored with seven.
Tiger goalkeeper Kent Freund finished with four saves.
FHSU out shot Truman 20-14 in the match, but the late penalty kick decided the match.
