TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The Fort Hays State University men's soccer team surrendered a late goal to tie 1-1 with No. 19 Northeastern State University on Thursday.
FHSU (9-4-2, 5-2-1 MIAA), no longer ranked and sitting No. 4 in the most recent regional rankings, claimed a 1-0 lead at halftime but gave up a goal in the 82nd minute. Northeastern State is now 8-3-3 and 5-1-2 in the MIAA.
Sophomore midfielder Tanner Brock put FHSU up in the 41st minute, and Northeastern State's Juan Peralta provided the tying score on a penalty kick.
FHSU sophomore goalkeeper Kent Freund finished with nine saves, which included two in the final two minutes of regulation and another with just more than two minutes in the second overtime to preserve the tie.
The tie clinched the Tigers' berth in the four-team MIAA tournament.
