JOPLIN, Mo. -- Freshman center Kate Lehman enjoyed the best game of her career, and nearly broke a longtime MIAA record in Saturday's 67-58 victory against Missouri Southern State University. FHSU won its fourth straight contest, ended a four-game losing streak at Missouri Southern and bumped its record to 19-7 overall, 11-7 in the MIAA.
Lehman finished with 28 points and 17 rebounds, both career-highs.
The 17 rebounds tied for 10th all-time for a single game in Tiger history. Lehman made her first 13 shots and finished 13-of-14 from the field.
She missed a jumper with 1:08 left. If Lehman had finished 13-of-13 from the field, she would have broken the conference record for most field goal attempts without a miss. The record for a game is 11-of-11 by Central Missouri's Tracie Morris in a Dec. 6, 1991 contest against Delta (Miss.) State.
Lehman also collected her eighth double-double of the season, and had six blocks to extend her season total to 87, already a school mark. Missouri Southern, last in the conference, dropped to 7-18, 3-16 MIAA. The Lions led 31-25 at halftime, but FHSU outscored the Tigers 42-27 after the break. Junior point guard Kaiameka Brown went 1-of-6 from the field, but was 10-of-12 from the free throw line for 12 points.
She also added five assists. Senior Kimber Weiser also tacked on 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Shatara Stone led the Lions with 19 points and 16 rebounds.
