FHSU women knock off Truman State

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The Fort Hays State University women's soccer team knocked off the third-best team in the conference, Truman State University, 2-1 on Friday.
The Tigers (9-5-1, 5-4-1 MIAA) scored the go-ahead goal just 19 seconds into the second half and then held off a Truman rally to win it. Truman dropped to 11-3-1 and 7-2 in league play.
FHSU freshman midfielder Alexis Aiman scored the opening goal in the 16th minute on an assist from senior midfielder Cindy Benitez. Truman responded just a minute later with a goal from Emily McMeekin on an assist from Melanie Hunt.
Freshman forward Jordan Hester provided the final score of the match early in the second half, putting it in off a rebound. Benitez was awarded the assist on the match-winning goal.
FHSU freshman goalkeeper Rachael Schaad tallied three saves.
FHSU will play at noon today against Lindenwood University (4-8-1, 0-8 MIAA) in St. Charles, Mo.
