The Fort Hays State University women's soccer team nearly took No. 8 University of Central Missouri into overtime in its conference opener, but the Jennies pulled out a late goal to win it.
Central Missouri's Alexis Robbers scored with just 17 seconds remaining in the match to propel her team to 1-0 win at FHSU Soccer Stadium.
It was the first goal the Tigers allowed in more than 382 minutes and the first goal scored by an opponent's player this season.
The only other goal scored on FHSU was an own goal in its 1-0 loss to University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.
The Tigers dropped to 3-2 and 0-1 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, while Central Missouri improved to 4-0-1 and 1-0 in MIAA play.
Fort Hays had just three shots on goal in the match, while the Jennies had eight.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Barnaba had seven saves before allowing the game-winning goal to get past her.
FHSU returns to action at 11 a.m. today against Southwest Baptist University (4-2, 1-0) at FHSU Soccer Stadium.
