DODGE CITY -- The Hays High Indian soccer team surpassed two milestones Thursday in its 6-2 win at Dodge City.

With the win, the Indians (11-3, 7-1 WAC) clinched at least a share of the WAC championship with Dodge City (9-5, 5-1). Dodge City has to win on the road at Garden City and Liberal to share the title.

Hays High junior Taylor Herman also set the school's single season scoring record by netting two goals against Dodge City.

Herman's goals in the 34th minute and 84th minute were her 14th and 15th of the season, breaking Jessie Steffen's record of 14 set in 2009.

"The most important thing was getting the win, but getting the scoring record was the icing on the cake," said Hays High head coach Chris Michaelis.

Dodge City led 1-0 when Signe Munk scored after just two minutes.

Hays High responded with three goals to lead 3-1 heading into the half.

The Indians notched two more goals before Dodge City's Hoy Lim scored in the 62nd minute to narrow the lead to 5-2. Herman scored the final goal to make it 6-2.

Hays High junior Bree Kiser scored twice, doubling her goal total this year, and junior Michele Linville and sophomore Lacey Pfannenstiel also scored.

Pfannenstiel and junior April Johnson tallied an assist each, and junior goalkeeper Laura Truman finished with six saves.

The Indians return home next week to face Newton on Tuesday and Salina Central on Thursday. Both games start at 4 p.m.
