MCPHERSON -- The Hays High School boys' soccer team crushed its first opponent at the McPherson Invitational.
The Indians mercy ruled Independence 11-1 on Tuesday at McPherson.
"I was really pleased overall with the team," said Hays High head coach Chris Michaelis. "I thought they played well and possessed the ball well."
During the route, Hays High junior forward Jordan Windholz set the school's single-game scoring record with six goals.
Windholz scored four goals in the first 20 minutes of the match before adding two more in the second half.
The game ended after 53 minutes when junior Shawn Herrman scored off an assist from senior Josue Lopez.
Herrman and senior Kellen Griffin each finished with two goals, and junior Lane Clark also had a goal.
On top of his six goals, Windholz also had two assists.
Lopez had four assists, and Griffin had two assists. Seniors Brady Kenton and Cody Brown also had assists.
"The distribution of the ball was very good," Michaelis said. "We only had one goal that was unassisted. As a coach, you have to be pleased with that."
The Indians (1-2) will meet Thomas More Prep-Marian in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Thursday in McPherson.
