LIBERAL -- The Hays High School boys' soccer team ended its season Tuesday against Liberal.
After beating the Redskins twice during the regular season, the Indians fell 2-0.
"We had some opportunities some really good opportunities, early in the match," Hays High coach Chris Michaelis said. "If we convert, it changes the strategy of what we do."
The defending Class 5A state champions, Liberal (8-8-1), placed 12 shots on goal to Hays High's four, but Liberal didn't get on the scoreboard until the 53rd minute on a goal by Elmer Quintana.
Hays High (6-9-2) switched from its 4-5-1 formation to a more aggressive 3-4-3 late in the match, which Michaelis said allowed Liberal to score its second goal in the 75th minute.
Liberal's Jason Rios scored on an assist from Esteban Michel.
"We ended up changing our formation when we got down to get the equalizer, and they caught us short handed for that second goal," Michaelis said.
