The Hays High School softball team will be coming off a doubleheader sweep heading into Thursday's Senior Day.
Hays High will play host to Salina Central at Dusty Glassman Ball Park in a 4 p.m. doubleheader in the regular-season finale.
Hays High won a pair of Western Athletic Conference games at Garden City on Tuesday, taking the opener 13-11 and the nightcap 7-5. The Indians, 7-9 overall, finished 5-3 in conference play.
"It's really nice to get a couple wins," Hays High coach Keith Dechant said. "We needed that to build some momentum.
"Salina Central comes into town this week, it would be nice to get some more momentum going into regional," Dechant added.
Hays High has two seniors on this year's squad, third baseman Allison Groff and outfielder Sandra Nickel.
"They're a big part of Hays High softball, and trying to turn this program around to where it was," Dechant said. "They're both great leaders."
Sophomore Carissa Wickham (4-4) picked up the win in Game 1 against Garden City, with sophomore Amanda Groff getting the save.
Hays High jumped out to a 9-4 lead after two innings and survived a five-run Garden City fifth. Sophomore Anna Voss hit three singles and a double and drove in two runs. Nickel collected two singles and a double, with two RBIs. Junior Whitney Montgomery homered.
In Game 2, Hays High trailed 5-3 when it used a four-run sixth to take the lead. Amanda Groff (3-5) pitched a complete game for the victory. Montgomery, Voss and junior Kaylee Schmeidler had two hits apiece.
