SALINA -- The Hays High School boys' swimming team finished fifth at the Salina South meet on Tuesday. However, the Indians had two different team scores. Because Salina South and Salina Central share the same swimming facility, the two schools don't compete against each other. The meet is scored directly against Central and then directly against South.
Against Salina Central, HHS earned 270 points. Newton won with 460 points. Hays High finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2 minutes, 3.85 seconds. Freshman Connor Hess was fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:08.98) and 500-yard freestyle (6:12.80). The 200-yard freestyle was also fifth in 1:44.67. When the meet was scored against South, South won with 451 points. HHS finished with 262 points. The 200-yard medley relay was fifth, while Hess finished eighth in the 100 fly, but fifth in the 500-yard freestyle. The 200-yard freestyle relay was sixth and the 400-yard freestyle relay was fourth.
TMP-Marian finished last among seven teams in each meet. The 200 freestyle relay finished 10th, and junior Payne Reif was 10th in the 100 freestyle.
