Three seniors head to state tennis for Hays High

VALLEY CENTER -- The Hays High School girls' tennis team is sending three seniors to the Class 5A state tournament in Topeka.

Shelby Dinkel made it in singles, placing fifth Saturday at the regional at Valley Center High School. Dinkel finished 3-1 and now is 20-16 this season.

The doubles team of Megan Bird and Janae Gagnon also qualified, going 2-2 and placing sixth. Bird and Gagnon are now 22-10 this season.

Freshman Brooke Forinash (22-12) was eliminated in her opening singles match to the eventual third-place finisher Macy Moyers from Great Bend, while sisters, junior Kelsee DeBoer and freshman Taylor DeBoer (18-13), also were eliminated in the first round, losing to the eventual regional champions, Hannah Calgren and Savannah Sailors of Newton.

The Class 5A state tournament will be hosted Friday and Saturday at the Topeka-Kossover Tennis Center.
