TOPEKA -- Hays High School's state tennis qualifiers didn't make it past Friday's competition at Kossover Tennis Center.

Indian senior Shelby Dinkel (20-18) lost to Salina Central senior Sammy Jordan 2-6, 6-3 (10-4) in her first-round match, and then fell to Lenexa-St. James Academy senior Molly Gillcrist 9-2.

In doubles, seniors Megan Bird and Janae Gagnon fell to Topeka West's Brett Fair and Laura Dicus 6-1, 6-3 in the first round and were eliminated by Blue Valley Southwest's Anna Hickok and Taylor Westrom 9-1.

"It is a little disappointing we didn't come home with any hardware," Hays High head coach Brett Jensen said. "But overall, I'm proud of the girls. It was an honor to make state, and I thought they played pretty well."

Saturday's Class 5A matches were postponed to today due to weather.

Class 3-2-1A's state tournament in Hutchinson was postponed to today. It was scheduled to begin at noon and finish Monday beginning at 9 a.m.

Saturday's Class 4A matches in Emporia was postponed to Monday, beginning at 10 a.m.
