LIBERAL -- The Hays High School wrestling team defeated Garden City, 51-27, and Liberal, 60-18, in dual competition on Thursday. Against Garden City, Hays High collected a win by a fall from senior Derek Stiles at 126 pounds and two forfeits to take an early 18-6 lead. Garden City tied the match at 18, but junior Leroy Franco and freshman Ethan Deterding each won by fall at 145 and 152 pounds, respectively. Sophomore 170-pounder Preston Weigel, senior 220-pounder Cash Drylie and senior 285-pounder Luke Madden also won by fall. Junior 195-pounder Chandler Rule won by an 8-4 decision.

Against Liberal, sophomore 106-pounder Russ Kohl, Stiles, junior 160-pounder Kyler Meyers, junior 182-pounder Clay Drylie, Rule and Cash Drylie all won by fall. Senior Kevin Arnhold won by technical fall at 119 pounds and Franco (14-6) and Deterding (8-2) also earned victories.
