HHS cross country competes in Hesston

HESSTON -- The Hays High School cross country teams competed Thursday at the Swather Special.
The Hays High boys finished fifth in Class 4-6A, while the girls were eighth.
The races were split by grade, and the top 20 medaled.
Derek Drees finished third in the senior boys' division in 17 minutes, 16 seconds. Senior Bayron Rivera was eighth in 17:49.
Juniors Austin Chambers, Landon Munsch, Kendall Kandt and Hunter Bizzell were 10th (18:03), 12th (18:12), 17th (18:30) and 20th (18:36), respectively. Sophomore Konner Buxton was ninth in 19:05, and freshman Ethan Bizzell was ninth in 20:05.
On the girls' side, freshman Haley George posted the fasted time in 17:31, placing ninth.
Sophomores Summer Smith and Mattie Schlaefli were 11th (18:07) and 16th (18:29), respectively. Senior Arin Pfannenstiel was 20th in 18:20.
