Hurricanes open season in Great Bend

The Hays Hurricanes Swim Team competed in the Western Kansas Swim Club season opener in Great Bend on June 1. Those Hurricanes competing were: Carson Ackerman, Emily Brinley, Lakin Ditter, Loganne Ditter, Kallyn DeWitt, Hannah Harman, Nicklas Helget, Amelia Jaeger, Ben Rajewski, Elliott Rule, Payton Rule, Gabriel Stanton, Gracie Stanton, Jackson Stanton and Katie Tinkel.

Multiple Hurricanes placed in the top six. In the age 8 group, Amelia Jaeger took first place in the 50 Fly, second place in the 50-yard backstroke, fifth place in the 50 breaststroke, first place in the 50-yard freestye, and first place in the 100 free.

In the age 9 group, Gracie Stanton was sixth place in the 50 free and fifth in the 50 backstroke. In age 11, Kallyn DeWit was sixth place in the 50 free and third place in the 200 individual medley. In age 12, Elliott Rule was fourth place in the 50 Back and fifth place in the 100 free and Hannah Harman was second place in the 200 free. In the age 14 group, Emily Brinley was fifth place in the 200 free and Lakin Ditter was sixth place in the 100 breaststroke. In age 16, Ben Rajewski was fourth place in the 50 free, third place in the 100 butterfly, second place in the 100 backstroke, second place in the 200 IM, and first place in the 200 free.

The girls team of Emily Brinley, Kallyn DeWitt, Lakin Ditter and Hannah Harman placed fourth in the 200 freestyle relay. The boys' team of Carson Ackerman, Ben Rajewski, Elliott Rule and Jackson Stanton placed 2nd in the 200 free relay and third in the 200 medley relay.

The following swimmers achieved good enough times to qualify for the end of season Division 2 Championship Swim Meet: Kallyn DeWitt, Amelia Jaeger, Ben Rajewski, Elliott Rule and Gracie Stanton. In addition, swimmer Amelia Jaeger broke pool records in the 50 and 100 free.
