Larks in NBC opener Tuesday night
By RANDY GONZALES
Hays Larks manager Frank Leo knows you can't take anything for granted at the National Baseball Congress World Series.
That's why he's going with ace right-hander Patrick Cooper in the Larks' opener. Hays (31-15) will play the winner of today's game between the San Diego Waves and Maxim (Calif.) Yankees at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita.
"Either one of those ball clubs can beat anybody," Leo said. "We've got to be ready tomorrow."
Cooper (6-3) is coming off a 12-2 loss against Dodge City last week, the Larks' first game after they clinched the Jayhawk League title. In that game, Cooper allowed four runs in four innings.
"This club can be very good at times," Leo said. "We also have bad games where we can't get untracked."
Win or lose Tuesday, the Larks' next game will be Friday in the double-elimination tournament. Hays finished second last year at the World Series.
