Larks win series opener

LIBERAL -- The Hays Larks broke open a close game with six runs in their final two-at-bats to claim a 13-6 win over Liberal in Jayhawk League action Friday night.
Mike Brownstein and Kevin Hennessey each drove in three runs for Hays, which improved to 25-12 overall, 19-8 in league play. Brownstein had three hits and a run scored, while Hennessey doubled twice and scored a run.
Ty Adams drove in two runs and scored twice, Eric Roof had three hits, including two doubles, and scored twice. Brandon Eckerle also had three hits, with one run scored and one RBI.
Hays starter Patrick Cooper (6-2) allowed six runs, four earned, on eight hits in 5Ôªø2âÑ3 innings. Steve Mazur worked 3Ôªø1âÑ3 scoreless innings for the save. Mazur didn't allow a hit, with no walks and five strikeouts.
Hays and Liberal were scheduled to play Saturday night and again tonight to conclude the three-game series.
