Larks defeat Dodge City, earns more victories when Joplin folds

Printer-friendly version

By The Hays Daily News

DODGE CITY -- The Hays Larks were credited with three Jayhawk League victories Tuesday night.

Hays won on the field, defeating the Dodge City Generals 11-2.

The Larks also received a pair of forfeit victories after it was announced that the Joplin (Mo.) Slashers have folded, and all their wins turned into forfeits.

Hays was 4-2 against Joplin this summer, so with the change in results of two games, the Larks are now 28-12 overall and 22-8 in the Jayhawk League.

Hays leads the league race by a game over defending champ Derby (24-11 overall, 22-10 Jayhawk) which also received forfeit wins.

Against Dodge City, Casey Hauptman turned in the longest outing this summer by a Larks pitcher. Hauptman (4-1) pitched eight innings, allowing two runs -- one earned -- on seven hits, with two walks and three strikeouts. Kevin Hennessey pitched a scoreless ninth.

The Larks pounded out 10 hits against four Dodge City pitchers. Joe Huwer drove in three runs and Rich Michalek homered. Mike Brownstein doubled, drove in two runs and scored two runs.

The two teams complete the two-game series tonight at Dodge City.
