Monarchs take two from Dodge

DODGE CITY — The Hays Monarchs swept Dodge City in a doubleheader Wednesday.

The Monarchs won 9-7 in Game 1 and run ruled Dodge City 12-0 after four innings in Game 2.

In Game 1, Taylor Pfeifer finished 2 of 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Jacob Fouts hit 2 of 4 and had three RBIs and a run and Travis Wasinger was 2 of 4 with three RBIs and a run.

Shane Zimmerman (2-0) lasted 7 innings and allowed nine hits and six earned runs while striking out seven.

In Game 2, Bryan Brungardt led the team at the plate, hitting 2 of 4 with a home run and five RBIs.

Nick Hammeke finished 2 of 4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Dylan Gottschalk was 3 of 3 and had two RBIs and a run.

Hammeke (1-2) pitched four shutout innings and allowed four hits and struck out three.

The Monarchs will play a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday at Colby.
