Hays High, TMP set to play in McPherson tourney

The two local high school boys' soccer teams will open play in the eighth annual McPherson Invitational Tuesday with back-to-back games at McPherson Stadium.

Thomas More Prep-Marian drew Maize South, the tourney's defending champion, in the tourney opener at noon, while Hays High, last year's runner-up, will play Independence at 2 p.m. Semifinals are set for Thursday, with the finals on Saturday.

TMP will take a 1-0 record in Tuesday's action after blanking Salina's St. John's Military 8-0 in its season opener Thursday. Hays High is 0-2 after dropping close matches to two strong programs, Garden City and McPherson, last week.
