RUSSELL -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian baseball team improved its winning streak to six games and has won 10 of 11 following a road doubleheader sweep Monday at Russell.

TMP run ruled Russell 12-2 in five innings in Game 1 and followed it with an 11-6 victory.

TMP (10-4) started Game 1 strong with six runs in the first inning. The Monarchs added three more in the third, two in the fourth and another in the fifth.

Sophomore third baseman Braiden Werth led TMP at the plate, hitting 3 of 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Junior pitcher Cameron Brin (3-1) got the win and allowed two runs, scattering eight hits and two walks through five innings.

In Game 2, TMP actually fell behind 5-0 after the first inning. The Monarchs put up zeros on the scoreboard until the fourth inning when they answered with another six-run inning to take the lead. Russell tied it up in the fifth, but TMP put the Broncos away with three in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Werth was even better offensively in the nightcap, hitting 3 of 5 with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Schippers (2-0) got the start and win, lasting five innings and allowing six runs, three earned, off eight hits and a walk while striking out seven. Sophomore Liam Stults came in during the sixth inning to earn the save.
