HILLSBORO -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian girls' basketball team's first day at the Trojan Classic didn't go well.

The Monarchs lost Tuesday to the top seed, Hillsboro, by 40, falling 65-25.

TMP hung with No. 4 ranked Hillsboro after the first quarter, trailing just 12-8, but the Trojans dominated the second and third quarters, outscoring TMP 38-14.

Only three Monarchs scored in the game. Senior point guard Heather Ruder led the squad with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point range, and senior forward Jenna Schuckman and junior forward Samantha Younie added six and four points, respectively.

Hillsboro had three Trojans reach double figures. Maci Schlehuber led the way with 20, and Addie Lackey and Tena Loewen scored 18 and 11 points, respectively.

TMP committed 24 turnovers compared to Hillsboro's four. The Monarchs also shot just 27.5 percent from the field, while Hillsboro made 48 percent.

The Monarchs next play in the consolation bracket and will face Holcomb at 4:45 p.m. Thursday in Hillsboro.
