Ruder gets win at Sterling Invitational

STERLING -- Thomas More Prep-Marian senior Heather Ruder defeated reigning Class 3A state champion Emily Sechrist of Hillsboro on Thursday at the Sterling Invitational.
The Monarchs boys' and girls' cross country teams finished third and fourth as a team, respectively.
Ruder, who won state in cross country as a sophomore, won the meet championship on the girls' side, running a 15:11.91 on the 4,000-meter course and defeating Sechrist by five seconds.
Freshman Andrew Hess led the boys' squad in their third-place finish. Hess finished 14th in 18:13 on the 5,000-meter course.
Nick Dopita was 19th in 18:51, and Austin Dinkel was 23rd in 18:56. Tony Staab was 26th in 19:05, and Matt Mindrup rounded out the team scoring with a 29th-place and 19:13 finish.
On the girls' side, Kayla Walker was the Monarchs' second runner. She finished 22nd in 17:51, while Shelby Stouffer was 27th in 18:01. Jordan Manhart and Annie Mindrup were 32nd and 36th in 18:51 and 19:00, respectively.
