HHS boys second, girls third at WAC track championships

DODGE CITY -- The Hays High School boys' track and field team finished second and the Indian girls were third at Thursday's Western Athletic Conference Championships.
The HHS boys scored 100 points, 6 1/2 behind winner Dodge City. Great Bend won the girls' side with 109 points, with Dodge City second with 97.83 points and hHS third with 95 points.
For the HHS boys, sophomore Josh Munsch won the 800-meter run in two minutes, 6.44 seconds and the 1,600 in 4:42.17.
Senior Sol Jackson was second in the 400-meter dash (52.37), and third in both the 200 dash (22.37) and 100 dash (11.04).
Nathan Augustine was fifth in the 3,200 with a time of 11:05.85.
The 1,600 relay was third in 3:38.17, and the 3,200 relay was fourth in 9:17.92.
Junior Trenton Oborny was second in the pole vault at 13 feet, 6 inches, while HHS went 1-2 in the long jump. Emir Laroya took the gold (20-11 3/4) and Brad Pruter won the silver (20-6 3/4).
Pruter also won the triple jump (41-11), with Laroya third (40-7) and Michael French fourth (40-4 1/4). Pruter also won the javelin (159-7).
HHS went 2-3 in the shot put, with senior Scott Bailey second at 49-9 1/2 and Tyler Riebel third at 47-4 3/4.
The Indians also went 2-3 in the discus, with senior Evan Charles second (140-4 1/2) and Rathke third (128-5 1/2).
For the Hays High girls, senior Kristen Fleharty won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.04 and took second in the 300 hurdles in 49.94.
Ashli Dryden was second in the 100 dash in 12.65 seconds, while freshman Sheradin Fabrizius was fifth (27.36). Erica Schmidt was sixth (27.39) in the 200 and fourth in the 100 hurdles in 17.04.
Junior Raena Sander finished third (1:04.12) and Dryden was fourth (1:04.92) in the 400 dash.
Sander also took third in the 800 in a time of 2:42.90, with Steph Weber fifth (2:49.53) and Sarah Disney sixth (2:54.28).
Kylie Gaughn finished second in the 1,600 in 5:55.92 and also was second in the 1,600 in 12:22.44. Chelsea Linenberger was sixth in the 3.200 in 14:50.75.
The Indian girls' 1,600 relay was third in 4:22.78 and the 3,200 relay took the gold in 10:36.86.
Blake Riedel won the high jump (4-10), with Hayley Pfeifer taking third in the pole vault (7-6) and Jamie Ball fourth in the pole vault (7-0).
Samantha Hardwick finished fourth in the long jump (15-10 1/2), while Dryden took second in the triple jump at 35-9 1/4 and Hardwick was fifth at 32-0 1/2.
Ticha Rebarchek was second in the shot put (37-5 1/2) and Erica Deines was sixth (34-4 1/4).
Rebarchek also was third in the discus (120-5), while Summer Hobbs took third in the javelin at 112-6.
MSAA meet delayed
Bad weather in the Larned area delayed the conclusion of the Mid-State Activities Association Championships until today. Four events were to be completed.
