The Hays High School wrestling team sent four wrestlers to state out of the Class 5A regional on Saturday at Great Bend.

The Indians qualified 195-pound junior Preston Weigel (38-0), 170-pound senior Kyler Meyers (36-7), 152-pound senior Leroy Franco (20-11) and 145-pound senior Jake Sedbrook (26-12).

Weigel, ranked No. 1 at 195 pounds in Class 5A, won his classification by pinning his first two opponents and defeating Newton senior Dillon Archer, the defending 195-pound state champion and ranked No. 2, by a 5-0 decision.

Meyers, ranked No. 4, won the third-place match over Great Bend's Darion Yager by a 4-2 decision.

Franco and Sedbrook each finished fourth in their classifications.

Thomas More Prep-Marian failed to qualify anyone out of the Class 3-2-1A regional this weekend at Norton, but 138-pound senior Jon Walker (16-16) and 285-pound junior Mason Lagree (13-17) came the closest. They both finished 2-2 and were two rounds short of qualifying.
