After votes from Tuesday's primary were canvassed, incumbent Republican Rep. Virginia Beamer, R-Oakley, has been defeated by challenger Don Hineman of Dighton.

The canvass changed the outcome of the Kansas House of Representatives 118th District race. After Tuesday's unofficial count, Beamer led by a vote of 1,853 to 1,848.

The 118th District includes all of Wallace, Logan, Gove, Lane, Wichita, Trego and Rush counties, and part of Ness County.

Beamer has until 5 p.m. today to request a recount.
