This is the first year for the Ident-a-Kid identification program in conjunction with First Call For Help's Backpacks for Kids.

The program provides fingerprints for a child to parents or guardians.

Cody Wolf and Kyle Bartling of the Hays Police Department greeted parents and children and offered the service to those interested.

"We do it at public events -- anywhere there's going to be a lot of kids," Wolf said. "It's good public relations with the children to get to know the police department."

There's space on the card for general information and a photo of the child. Wolf said they recommend parents include that because the information can be useful in an emergency.

"Parents can keep this in case anything would happen," Wolf said.
