State Rep. Virginia Beamer, R-Oakley, has announced her bid for re-election for the Kansas House of Representatives' 118th District.

"It has been my privilege to serve the 118th District," Rep. Beamer said. "I love working for the people of my district. It is a great opportunity to become informed about the crucial issues facing our communities and state and then try to make a difference. It is my hope 118th District voters will once again give me the honor of representing them so we can continue to improve our communities and state."

Beamer, who joined the Legislature in 2005, pointed to her efforts in balancing the budget and limiting increased spending; protecting Second Amendment rights; addressing concerns of rural schools; and reducing the tax burden for Kansas seniors, the disabled and businesses.

"We've just begun the discussion and possible action on immigration reform, energy policy and health care reform, and I want to make sure our district's voice is heard," Beamer said.

She serves on the House Appropriations; General Government Budget; and the Elections and Governmental Organization Committees as well as the Joint Committee on special Claims Against the State.
