Historic school in Collyer receives award
COLLYER -- The Kansas Preservation Alliance has awarded St. Michael Catholic School with an award of excellence.
The awards were presented in Topeka May 18.
The school building received a preservation stewardship award for windows, doors and masonry restoration by the Collyer Community Alliance.
The school, constructed of native limestone and brick, was dedicated in 1917. It was closed in 1967 as a result of consolidation.
The community alliance hopes to use the building for a community center and business incubator.
