The Fort Hays State University Student Government Association on Thursday night approved a resolution opposing any measure that would allow concealed carry weapons on campus.

The vote was 22-9 in favor of the resolution.

Ed Howell, director of FHSU police and security, said he was asked to address SGA.

Howell said he doesn't favor allowing concealed carry on campus.

Senator Tyler Clark voted against the amendment saying concealed carry is a way of "leveling the playing field and (providing) security."

Clark said between 60 and 70 students in favor of concealed carry attended the meeting.
