Two hurt when car rolls near Hays

Two Missouri residents were hospitalized after a driver fell asleep at the wheel and rolled a passenger car at 2:42 p.m. Monday.

Two Missouri residents were hospitalized after a driver fell asleep at the wheel and rolled a passenger car at 2:42 p.m. Monday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported Kathleen M. Elliott, 79, St. Louis, was eastbound on Interstate 70, approximately 5 miles west of Hays, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu when she fell asleep, entered the median and overcorrected into the south ditch. The car rolled 1.5 times before coming to rest.

Elliott and a passenger, 82-year-old Arline Gertrude Eveld, St. Charles, Mo., were transported to Hays Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

The KHP reported both were wearing seat belts.
