The Hays USD 489 Board of Education voted Monday night to move forward on two building projects -- the Building F.A.S.T. weight-training room at Hays High School and a metal building addition at Felten Middle School.

A standing-room-only crowd, many of them wearing Hays High School athletic team T-shirts and sweatshirts, waited through two executive sessions about non-elected personnel to hear the vote on the Building F.A.S.T. project at HHS.

About a dozen members of the audience addressed the board during the audience participation segment.

The board voted 6-1, with member James Leiker dissenting, to complete the fitness facility, including equipment, using district funds.
