FHSU to host annual blood drive Oct. 30 and 31
Special to The Hays Daily News
Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Students, faculty and staff from Fort Hays State University have teamed up with the American Red Cross and Horizon Appliance & Electronics to raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood donations. Alpha Kappa Psi also has joined forces as the blood drive sponsor to help recruit donors.
"FHSU has been a wonderful partner over the years, hosting blood drives in both the fall and spring semesters," said Cathy Younger, American Red Cross Donor Recruitment Representative. "In addition to the partnership we have with FHSU, Horizon Appliance & Electronics is donating a 19-inch TV, and all presenting donors can enter to win."
Students, faculty and staff can give blood from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 30 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 31 in the Union Ballroom. Call (316) 303-6067 or visit redcrossblood.org to schedule your appointment to donate.
"Your single blood donation can help save the lives of several hospital patients," Younger said. "We need more than 260 people to come in to donate at the October blood drive in order to meet the needs of hospital patients."
O negative donors especially are needed. Supplies of O negative are down throughout the Red Cross blood services regions throughout the United States.
