for The Hays Daily News

Sher Maska is a Hays native who has been attending the Wild West Festival for several years.
However this is her first year as a volunteer.
“I belong to the Hays Soccer Club, and the organization wanted to help and give back,” Maska said.
“There’s just a variety of things to do and there’s something for everyone,” Maska said. The evening was a warm one but that still didn’t seem to take the smiles of attendees. “It’s just a great place to come to and relax, and have a good time with family and friends,” she said.

Leah Budke is a Fort Hays State University senior from Beloit.
“I’ve only been going for a few years but I have fun everytime,” Budke said.
Kyle Kinser is a friend of Budke’s and is also a FHSU senior, from Jennings. “I come down every year for the concerts and the drinks,” he said.
Both Budke and Kinser agree that Wild West Fest is simply the place to be.
“There is just a really friendly atmosphere here, and there is always something to do,” Budke said.
“I came to see Wally and the Bassbones. I went to school with a couple of the guys and their really good,” Kinser said.

Janet and Bob Koerner are faithful Wild West Festival attendees.
“We’ve been coming here for around 10 years,” Koerner said.
The Koerners have done a little volunteer work, but they come to the festival for the atmosphere and the relaxation.
“We look forward to the concerts every year, and we’ve been coming for so long, we know so many people and it’s good to spend time with old and new friends,” Koerner said.
Almost everyone who comes to the Wild West Festival has their one thing that they most look forward to and the Koerners are no exception.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing Joe Nichols,” Koerner said.
