NCK Tech annual health fair is Saturday

A goal of any nurse is to help others learn more about a healthy lifestyle.
Students in the first-year licensed practical nursing program at North Central Kansas Technical College will do just that Saturday in the school's fourth annual health fair.
Students will be available to give various kinds of health checks from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Kansas National Guard Armory, 200 Main.
Nursing instructors for the college's LPN program said the event, which started in 2010, has become increasingly popular with an increase of attendees each year.
The students earlier this semester split into four groups and chose a health topic they would feature at the fair. This year's list is immunizations, stress, hypertension and leukemia. As a group, the class added diabetes to the list.
There will be the standard blood pressure checks Saturday, as well as bone marrow swabbing, information handouts about immunizations and glucose checks. There also will be a yoga instructor on hand for demonstrations throughout the day.
Also on display at the fair will be evidence-based posters made by students in the second-year registered nurse program at NCK Tech. Those students have collected research on selected health topics.
There also will be children's games available at the fair, as well as raffles for a variety of supplies at each station that were donated by sponsors.
