InfiniTec sells to Michigan company

Hays-based computer software company InfiniTec Inc. has been acquired by Manatron, based in Portage, Mich.

InfiniTec, which primarily creates and services software sold to local governments, was founded in Hays in 1979. In the late 1980s, the company was sold to a Kentucky firm before being returned to Hays ownership in 1994.

Owners Doug and Carol Rozean now employ 30 people, according to Travis Rozean, operations manager.

"InfiniTec has been the quiet company in Hays," Travis Rozean said. "It's gone through different owners, but has always been the same people, which is pretty neat.

"And it's now owned by a company that basically does the same things."

InifinTec's staff will be folded into the 400-person workforce of Manatron, which also provides software for local governments, including Sedgwick and Johnson counties in Kansas.

"It's status quo for now," Rozean said of the workforce.

InfiniTec provides software for city and county governments in 80 Kansas counties -- tax applications that include the calculation of property taxes, databases, Web sites and internal operations, said Travis Rozean.

The company also operates a secondary office in Topeka.

"This acquisition provides the financial strength, people and product innovation to aggressively address the growing demands of this market," said Bill McKinzie, Manatron president and chief executive officer. "Our office in Hays will continue to be the base for our Kansas operation. Doug Rozean and Travis Rozean will be instrumental in driving our combined operation forward."

Travis Rozean said the educational resource of Fort Hays State University and the relatively low cost of labor in Ellis County could be a long-term boon for the local economy.

"We hope to make Manatron realize, 'Hey, look at this area.' We can be very competitive in salaries," he said. "You can bring more jobs to this area."

The combined companies will have more than 80 percent of the market share, according to a Manatron press release.

"By teaming up with Manatron, Infinitec strengthens our ability to continue to meet the needs of our customers not only today, but well into the future," Doug Rozean said in a statement.

InfiniTec's newest northwest Kansas client includes Russell County.

"And we hope to do some more business with our (area) cities and counties," Travis Rozean said.

Well the truth hurts, if you don't like it then move. Nobody is forcing you to stay in Hays and make a low income. Don't blame the employer for what he pays you, ask for more if they don't give it to you then "guess what" go some where that does. Or start your own business...Typical Hays, always against the other person that makes something of his life and God forbid he makes a little money at doing it. If you don't like it, then do something about it, don't sit here and make comments!!!

I highly doubt that this is 80% market share in the country. Maybe Kansas. I agree with Robert. Thanks for making Hays sound like such a great place to start a business because people are willing to work for less. Way to support your city, Travis! Real classy! I'm sure the city's population will soon double since everyone will want to work here after hearing your wonderful comments.

80% of marketshare sounds like a monopoly. Will the SEC even let this go through? Or will they even look.
