Russell Co. roadwork could begin this week
Special to The Hays Daily News
Road construction could begin as early as this week on portions of Kansas Highways 18 and 232 in Russell County.
The scope of the work on K-18 includes a 1.5-inch overlay beginning at the east U.S. Highway 281 junction (near Luray), and continuing east to the Lincoln County line.
The scope of the work on K-232 includes a 1.5-inch mill and inlay, followed by a 1.5-inch overlay of new asphalt material beginning at the K-18 junction and continuing southeast to the Lincoln County line. The shoulders will be widened on the K-232 section. Both construction operations will cover 22 miles on the two highways.
Flaggers and a pilot car operation will guide one-lane traffic through the work zones during daylight hours. Delays of 15 minutes or less should be expected through the construction time frame. The public should plan their travels accordingly.
KDOT awarded the $4,179,991 construction contract to Venture Corp. of Great Bend.
Weather permitting, this project will be complete by Nov. 30.
