Halloween plans scheduled at mall


Costumes, games and photos are scheduled Saturday at The Mall in Hays. The day will start at 11 a.m. with a costume contest for three age groups: 0 to 3, 4 to 8 and 9 to 12. A prized will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners in each age group. Registration is required by Saturday to be eligible for prizes.

After the contest, children can play games and activities provided by area nonprofit organizations from noon to 2 p.m. Cost is $1 for each game, with proceeds going to the participating nonprofits. The organization with the best decorated booth also will receive $75. Another prize worth $75 will be awarded to the organization that sells the most tickets, for a total of $150 available for the participating nonprofit groups.

The day continues with $5 photos in front of the spooky Halloween display in The Mall's center court from noon to 2 p.m. Families also will be able to attend Immaculate Heart of Mary's Haunted House during this time, located in the former Fashion Bug space. The lighted version is from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and the spooky, haunted, dark version is from 5 to 11 p.m. CYO Haunted House also will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday and Oct. 31.

Free trick-or-treating at The Mall stores will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 31.
