I am pleased to support Derek Schmidt to be our next Kansas attorney general.

I have had the good fortune of knowing Derek for many years, since he was a young staff person working for Sen. Nancy Landon Kassebaum. Derek's professional career has been dedicated to serving Kansans and working to better our state. That is the kind of proven commitment we need in public service.

Additionally, Derek has a background in agriculture and in agricultural law. During his first term in the Kansas Senate, he served as chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee. He was also elected majority leader by his Republican colleagues.

Derek understands that we live a pretty special way of life here in Kansas, and we ought to work hard to preserve that way of life for future generations. He represents a rural southeast Kansas district that has much in common with our communities in the Big First, so he understands the rural communities that are crucial to Kansas.

We need a Kansas attorney general who will stand up and fight for us on issues like clearing the way for the power plant in southwest Kansas or filing suit to stop the heath care takeover by the federal government.

Derek is highly qualified and committed to standing up for Kansas. I hope you will consider joining me in voting for him.

Rep. Jerry Moran, R-Kan.
