Hourlong power outage hits part of Hays
A power outage cut electricity in the eastern portion of Hays for about an hour Wednesday. Included in the outage was Roosevelt Elementary School and portions of Hays High School, although the main building at HHS reportedly was not affected, contrary to early reports of the incident.
Midwest Energy spokesman Mike Morley said about 890 customers were affected by the outage, which was caused when a substation breaker tripped at approximately 10:35 a.m. The outage primarily affected customers east of Vine Street between 13th and 22nd streets and extending east to the edge of Hays.
Power was restored to all customers by 11:40 a.m., Morley said, noting Midwest crews are investigating what caused the breaker to trip.
