April 28 LaSada fundraiser will benefit American Red Cross
By RANDY GONZALES
RUSSELL -- The Western Kansas Chapter of the American Red Cross will be the beneficiary of a fundraiser at LaSada Sporting Clays and Hunting Service, 3721 183rd, Russell.
The Sporting Clay Classic on April 28 is the inaugural event for the local chapter, located in Hays.
The 100-target Lewis Class tournament starts at 9 a.m. The last squad will start at 3 p.m., with awards at 4 p.m.
"This is our first time doing it," said Meagan Carver, service center manager. "They've done it at the regional level, but this is the first time for our chapter to do this fundraiser."
A group of leadership students at Fort Hays State University is assisting the local Red Cross chapter with the fundraiser.
Proceeds will go toward disaster relief for the American Red Cross, which receives no government funding.
Other fundraisers in the past for the local chapter have been golf tournaments and motorcycle poker runs. Carver said the event seemed like a perfect fit.
"Just knowing that people like the outdoors, and it's springtime now," she said. "Hopefully, the weather will cooperate.
"It's something new; not a lot of organizations do stuff like this. I thought it would draw a different group of people's attention."
To register for the event, visit www.lasada.com or call (785) 483-3751.
The entry fee is $70 per person or $210 for a three-person team.
Lunch is included, as well as prizes. The fee does not include shells.
