Events kick off with the Russell High School homecoming parade at 2:30 p.m. The Broncos' homecoming game is at 7 p.m.

Cruise night at A&W starts at 5 p.m., and the beer tent at Eighth and Main also opens at 5 p.m., followed by a free concert at 8 p.m. by Salina band The Blades.

On Saturday, there will be a 5K and 10K run. Registration is at 8 a.m., and the run starts at 8:30 a.m.

Registration for the Flatland Car Show, located at Seventh and Main, is from 9 a.m. to noon.

There will be food vendors along Main Street. Some will offer breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, said event organizer Stephanie Cross.

Food judging of the Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned contest begins at 11 a.m., but cooks can be working all night Friday, she said.

The four categories are chicken, ribs, pork and brisket. The awards ceremony for the BBQ contest and car show is at 3 p.m.

Children's activities include story time, clowns and face painting, Cross said.

The beer tent opens at noon Saturday, and a free concert by the Blue Heelers is at 6 p.m.
