State Sen. Allen Schmidt, D-Hays, was appointed Thursday to the Financial Institutions and Insurance Special Committee by Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley.
"Interim committees meet during the legislative break to study topics not covered in the regular session," Hensley said. "As a member of the Special Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance, Sen. Schmidt will help develop policies to be introduced next legislative session."
The committee will review the impact of new regulations on the state general fund, study the modernization of laws governing insurance holding companies, and look for ways to streamline state regulations.
In addition, Schmidt will serve on the Administrative Rules and Regulations Interim Committee, which will meet for five days this fall to review rules and regulations submitted by state agencies.
Schmidt serves as ranking minority member on the Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee and as a member of the Senate Education Committee, Senate Agriculture Committee, Senate Natural Resources Committee, Joint Committee on Kansas Security and KanCare Advisory Council.
