GOODLAND -- A 23-year-old Oklahoma man was killed in an accident Wednesday in Sherman County after the driver of the pickup he was riding in reportedly fell asleep at the wheel on Interstate 70.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said Corey Blaine McBride, Bokoshe, Okla., was a passenger in a 2011 GMC pickup driven by Justin Tyler Strickland, 24, Burkburnett, Texas.

The KHP said the vehicle was eastbound at 1:43 p.m., approximately 6 miles east of Goodland, when Strickland fell asleep and drove into the south ditch. The truck rolled and McBride was ejected from the vehicle.

McBride, who police said was not properly restrained, was taken to Goodland Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead.

Strickland, who was reportedly wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
