Taylor resigns as Ellis police chief
At Monday's meeting of the Ellis City Council, Police Chief Randy Taylor tendered his resignation.
He expressed his appreciation of the city of Ellis and his enjoyment in serving as police chief. Councilman Brian Raub moved to accept the resignation, which passed unanimously. Taylor’s last day will be Aug. 3.
The council entered into executive session with City Attorney Olavee Raub and Taylor for 30 minutes, taking action in open session to create an investigative hiring committee to take on the task of replacing Taylor and studying the concept of countywide law enforcement. The committee will include Raub, Corey Burton, Kenton Russell, Lt. Mark Dieterding,
Mayor Dave McDaniel, Martin LaBarge, Brian Raub, Leon Kohl and Ellis County Sheriff Ed Harbin.
The council also voted to begin advertising for Taylor's replacement.
