Jeff Brull announced Monday night the official numbers for last month's Auction for Christian Education at Thomas More Prep-Marian Junior-Senior High School in Hays.

The total amount raised at the 39th annual event sponsored by the TMP Alumni Association was $630,477, approximately $230,000 more than last year's record-setting amount.

More than half of that was raised for the installation of an elevator in the four-story administration/classroom building on campus. That item, one of more than 400 auctioned the night of April 27, brought $347,256, including a $100,000 match from the Leo J. and Albina Dreiling Trust.

"A big thanks to the Dreiling trust, our local and area businesses, our many benefactors, and the hundreds of volunteers who made this a resounding success," said Brull, advancement director at the local Catholic school for grades 7 through 12.

This year's efforts put the total amount raised since the event's inception in 1975 at more than $5 million.

Brull said plans for the elevator have been ongoing all year and construction would begin in early summer.

"It's nice to know we have adequate funds for it," he said.
