According to early projections, Hays Regional Airport has surpassed its goal of 10,000 boardings for the second year in a row.

During a Hays Area Chamber of Commerce Chamber Chat at HRA Friday morning, Hays Public Works Director I.D. Creech announced 10,197 boardings had been attained in 2012. Reaching the 10,000 benchmark qualifies the airport to seek federal assistance up to $1 million for airport improvement projects.

Airports with boardings of less than 10,000 are eligible for up to $150,000 in federal assistance.

Although a final year-end audit of passenger boardings will not be available for a few weeks, HRA Manager Bob Johnson said he anticipates total enplanements to exceed early projections.
